'The Post Office' by Rabindranath Tagore

In 2011 Val staged a production of Rabindranath Tagore's play The Post Office

In 2013, in celebration of the 100th anniversary of Tagore being awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature, Val staged a reading of this production for Bengal History Week.

At the heart of this play is a young boy whose imaginative life is celebrated, and who gives Joy to those he meets as the story of the play unfolds even though he has a terminal illness and is facing death. Mixing simplicity with sophistication, the play’s universal appeal has made it a world classic. Ghandi was spellbound by the play in Calcutta in 1917. Anita Desai called it, ‘as modest as a dewdrop, as profound as the ocean'.

Cast:  Lawrence Anthony, Noah Brooks, Amajit Deu, Jyoti Goel, Edward Halsted, Harmage Singh Kalirai, Vidhya Ravichandran. With musicians Richard Cole/Radha Mohan and Nicola Tagoe.
